Unable to Enable Desktop Icons after Joining to the Domain

Error = “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.”

Create a group policy and enable below setting.

Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options

Enable below option.

User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account

Restart the system to apply the above setting

Now you will be able to change the setting
