March 6, 2014 By Damitha Anuradha 18 Comments

“Hyper-V Components is not Running” error nested in VMWare Workstation

Hyper-V Manager – An error occurred while attempting to start the selected virtual machine(s). ‘VM-Server-NAME‘ failed to start.
Failed to start the virtual machine ‘VM-Server-NAME‘ because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.

‘VM-Server-NAME‘ failed to start. (Virtual machine ID VM-ID)

The Virtual Machine Management Service failed to start the virtual machine ‘VM-Server-NAME‘ because one of Hyper-V components is not running (Virtual machine ID VM ID)

To fix this error you have to edit the VMX configuration file. This VMX configuration file is located at your Virtual Machine’s path.
Before edit the configuration file Shutdown the Hyper-V host (Windows Server 2008/2008 R2/2012/2012 R2) from VMWare
.

Open the VMX file with text editor such as Notepad. And enter the below line at end of the notepad.

hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = “FALSE”

Now save and close configuration file and start the host server and start virtual machine on Hyper-V

    This solution helped me out, although i don’t understand why this worked a few days before, 3 to be exact, while inside VMware i created a new OS, not related to the hyper-visor (vmed).

    Well, beats me.. but it worked :)

    You can also try editing the VMX file and changing the guest OS line:
    guestOS = “winhyperv”

    Seems to work when the hypervisor.cpuid.v0 setting doesn’t.

      Dear All,
      My Reply to my previous commentor zhdl – Dear Zhdl, this resolution refersz to the people who have installed their HYPER V systems on VMware workstations, hence a VMX file is automatically created. You need to edit the vmx file opening it with a notepad.

      If you are not using Vmware workstation then you may not find the path.

      Again, I am referring to the resolution now, I had followed the editing part of the vmx file , make sure , while editing the vmx file the servers needs to be turned off.

      Voila its has worked , Thanks to Super man.. 😉
