Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Monitoring Server Step by Step

Below Lync Server 2010 guides will help you to setup your Lync Server environment. And in this article I will show you how to configure Monitoring Server in Lync Server 2010.

Add new Server to Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Enterprise Pool

Log in to your one of Lync Server and open Lync Server 2010 Topology Builder. Right click on Monitoring Server and click New Monitoring Server.

Define the FQDN of your New Server.

Now you have to define the SQL Store.

Log in to your back end SQL Server and start the SQL Setup. Click New Installation or add features to an existing installation on installation tab.

Click New installation or add shared features check box.

Select the Product Key type.

SQL Server Feature Installation.

Select Database Engine Services, Reporting Services, Management Tools – Basic, Management Tools – Complete and SQL Client Connectivity SDK. Since I used this same SQL Server to my Lync Server Enterprise pool’s DB only above two features should select.

Define your Named Instance for Lync Monitoring Server.

I have separate User Account for SQL Service. (See this article) Log in to the Active Directory and create a User account for the SQL Service.

Add SQL Server Administrators.

You can choose database path and log path as well. And it is recommend to put DB and Logs in separate locations.

Install the native mode default configuration.

Now log in to the SQL Server management studio.

Check the default Databases in Databases.

Now open Reporting Services Configuration Manager

Select the instance, and click Connect

Go to the Web Service URL and click Report Server Web URL to check the connectivity.

Now we can define the SQL Store. Again log in to the Lync Server and continue the wizard.

Associate Front End Pools.

After finished the above steps you can Publish the Topology.

Now log in to the Monitoring server. (lync-mon-arch.doitfixit.local) Install .Net Framework 3.5.1. You should also install Message Queuing with Directory Service Integration in all your Lync Front End Servers and Monitoring/Archiving Server.

Install Windows Media Format Package.

Add IIS Features.

ServerManagerCmd.exe -Install Web-Server Web-Http-Redirect Web-Scripting-Tools Web-Windows-Auth Web-Client-Auth Web-Asp-Net Web-Log-Libraries Web-Http-Tracing Web-Basic-Auth

Start the Lync Server 2010 installation.

Click Install or Update Lync Server System

Install Local Configuration Store

Setup or Remove Lync Server Components.

See

See the Deployment Log.

No need to run Assign Certificates wizard.

Start Services.

See the newly created DBs in SQL Server.

Lync Monitoring Services.

See the Status of Topology in Lync Server 2010 Control Panel.

Now open the Lync Server Deployment Wizard on Lync Front End Server.

Click Deploy Monitoring Server Reports.

See the Monitoring server information.

Specify Credentials

Specify Read-Only Group. Log in to the Active Directory Users and Computers and locate RTCUniversalReadOnlyAdmins group go to properties, Members Tab and add Administrator in to the list.

Open Lync Server 2010 Control Panel. Click 1-MonitoringServer-2 under View Monitoring Server Reports.

You are done.
