July 24, 2011 By Damitha Anuradha Leave a Comment

DPM 2010 with the step by step screenshots.

Prerequisites (Server 2008)

  • NET 3.5 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
  • PowerShell 2.0 Community Technology Preview 3 (CTP3)
  • Windows Installer (MSI) 4.5
  • Windows Single Instance Store (SIS)

Note: For server 2008 R2 you don’t want to install any prerequisites. All prerequisites are pre-installed on the operating system.

You can’t install DPM 2010 on the below servers

  • Management Server for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager
  • Application server
  • A computer with cluster services enabled

Let’s go to DPM 2010 step by step installation guide using screenshots.

In my installation I am using DPM 2010 ISO file and mounting it to the virtual drive. When we mount an ISO file the below screen will come.

Select “Install Data Protect Manager“

Click On “Next”

Remember the instructions and click on Next.

Restart the Server and Run DPM setup again. And provide requested information as well.

Click on “Next”

If you want to use your existing SQL server, use the second option and provide the requested information. In my case, I am using the same server as the SQL server.

Click on “Next”

Use a strong password for the restricted account and click on “Next”

Use recommended settings and click on “Next”

Again use recommended settings and Click on “Next”

Now it will install DPM 2010 and SQL 2008 to your computer. It will take several minutes.

The installation is finished.

In our next article, we will guide you how to configure DPM and protect your Exchange Server.
